What will it be used for?

This is the first question you need to ask yourself. The answer to it will decide the budget and the components you will use.

If this is your first build, it is more than likely you will be building a fairly standard mid range machine. Something to browse the web and write a few word documents. However you may want something a bit faster that can handle gaming or watching blu-ray films.

Once you know what you want your new computer to do you can start picking the components. This can take a while making sure that they are all compatible with each other but it will be worth it in the long run.

Why not build it yourself?

With money tight buying a new computer may well be the last thing on your mind. Then there is the daunting number of options to choose from. With several brands and models to available how are you to know which is right for you?

Often none are the right choice. So why pick something that isn't perfect for you? Why don't you decide what you want your computer to be? Why not build it yourself?

At first this may seem far to complicated and technical for you to understand, however it really isn't. I built my first computer at the age of 13 and yes it worked!

Over these few blog posts I am going to try and explain all that you need to know to build your own computer. From choosing the components to installing the operating system, all will be explained here.
